Today’s speaker was our very own campanologist and speaker finder Mr Peter Murgatroyd who gave an audio visual presentation on the recently refurbished church clock tower following a major local campaign.
He described how the church and original chapel [1651] were an important focus for the community who had responded to appeals [no pun intended] for the return of the clock tower to fully functioning operation.
Following a recent heavy Pennine storm the tower was confirmed water tight, the clock correct and following some further work the bells and Carillion will soon be ringing out again across Meltham, though he did admit there may be some mixed feelings about that from some locals.
Peter ably answered many questions from our members who were enthused by the talk and he finished by excitedly announcing the celebration concert 20th June by the highly regarded and versatile Honley Male Voice Choir at only £6 per head.
