Donkey Sanctuary, Leeds
Daniel McLoughlin
Today's Speaker was Daniel McLoughlin centre manager from the Leeds Donkey sanctuary established in 1973 by one Elizabeth Spenson.
He described how his interest in the sanctuary was prompted by help given to his disabled daughter some years ago and how they care for a number of donkeys that he described as intelligent animals in comparison with their 4 legged cousins.
There are approximately 7000 donkeys in the UK mainly for recreational purposes and an estimated 50 million worldwide. The centre enables children to experience riding and caring for the donkeys as part of their lives.
Daniel had an enthusiasm for his work that came across and ended by answering questions from members.
