The History of Wentworth House
Trevor Moody
Today's speaker was Trevor Moody who spoke on the History of Wentworth House.
He gave an audio visual presentation covering the development of the estate from 1725 and details of the families living there over the years. He described how it was the largest house in the UK and was open to visitors daily.
There were photos of the rooms, gardens, follies, church, statues and gate lodges.
The devastation of open cast mining opposite the house has now been restored as ornamental gardens.
He recommended a book "The black diamonds" to members for more details.
