Black Dyke Mills Brass Band

Wednesday 23 August 2017
Speaker: John Clay

Today's speaker was John Clay who spoke on "A brief history of Black Dyke Mills Brass Band" formed in 1855 by the John Foster Mills at Queensbury near Halifax.

He spoke on the confusion during a tour in the USA of the band's name as it had slightly different meaning in their day-to-day language.

He pointed out that the band has rarely been out of the top flight of brass bands both in the UK and around the word. He displayed a number of slides depicting the bands history, conductors and achievements along with his personal involvement with the band as a player and someone with a vast knowledge of the bands history.
