Childhood

Wednesday 8 November 2017
Speaker: Richard Ryden (Probus)

An entertaining trip through Richard's childhood.

The stuffed green dog launched from a gramophone rotating at 78rpm through an open window straight under the farmer's plough only to emerge several months later, worm-ridden when the potatoes were harvested.

The push-along, ride-along dog called Charlie taken to a blessing at the local Methodist church never to return but given to a poorer child.

The adventure of a three-year old on a tricycle terminated by a friendly copper a mile and a half from home whilst mother was busy baking.

The emergency beacon found and dunked in the bath resulting in a plethora of emergency services arriving at the front door.

The mine washed up on a Welsh beach and rolled about until told it might still be live.

The home-built radio receiver passed to Dad to listen to the trawlers until the aerial was hit by lightning and Dad received a new hair style.

The hurry-cart built from wheels stolen from a Silver Cross pram, with baby inside, parked outside the butchers (in a lot of trouble for that escapade).

The first spider launched into "space" aboard a bonfire-night rocket.
