Charles Waterhouse
Today’s speaker was our very own chairman Charles Waterhouse, who gave an entertaining and well researched talk on three internationally acclaimed Jazz legends, Louis Armstrong, Duke Ellington and Benny Goodman.
Jazz originated in the African-American communities of New Orleans, in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, its roots are in blues, ragtime, spiritual, hymns and marches.
Charles explained how these Jazz and swing legends started off and how they got to the pinnacle of there genre. He interspersed his talk with photos and some of their well known musical tracks.
